#004 Enamoured With King Jesus (1 Kings 10:1-10)

King Solomon in the Bible is what we call a ‘type’ of Christ.

What that means is that Solomon is a picture of what Jesus is like.

In 1 Kings ch10 we learn that the Queen of Sheba came to visit Solomon.

And the Queen of Sheba makes some observations about Solomon. She comments on Solomon’s wealth and the grandeur of his palace. She comments on his wisdom and the Queen of Sheba also notices how happy Solomon’s servants were.

The writer of this particular historical account then recalls an observation made about the Queen of Sheba.

Verse five tells us that, having witnessed Solomon’s glory, ‘There was no more breath in her.’ She was breathless. King Solomon’s glory was breath taking!

In part, no doubt because, as we read in v7, the report about Solomon given to her by her own servants - which prompted her visit - well in her own words “Behold, the half was not told me.”

Christian, would that we were as enamoured with King Jesus as the Queen of Sheba was with King Solomon.

But how wonderful to think that when we finally meet him in his kingdom, we will realise that we didn’t know the half of how glorious he is.

Yet even now, if we serve Jesus as king, we can be happy servants until that day.
